There conflicting ideas on which of the two strategies is more effective for maintenance of the nation’s national security. In the past days, the government of the United States has been relying on the strategy of preponderance in its efforts to maintain the national security. The use of this strategy has been influence by the U.S economical, political and military supremacy. Due to the changes that have occurred in the current world, there is likelihood of this policy not continuing being effective. The strategy of balancing is suggested to be more appropriate in ensuring the national security of the United States.

These strategies have differences in their approaches. The strategy of preponderance allows the use of military forces by the United States in its efforts to ensure its national security. It suggests that the U.S should dominate decision making and other major activities that have global influence. It also suggests that U.S should use its military forces to intervene in domestic problems of other countries. According to this strategy, U.S should withdraw its military forces from other countries and use it only when protecting its interests. U.S should not use excessive force to persuade other countries to follow its policies but, use the democratic approaches in its efforts to maintain national security. According to this strategy, economical, political and military dominance are not the solution to the United State national security.

Members of these alliances solve the issues of national security together so that they can achieve their common interest. In collective security, military forces from different countries are controlled by their country’s military regulations regardless of the fact that they work together.
