All of the contributors to MormonThink either still are or have been members of the LDS Church. We grew up in the Church and we can certainly answer this question as well as anyone. The answer is yes, of course Mormons are Christian in the sense that they believe Jesus was the Messiah and redeemer of the world.

The first result of these essays will be to validate much of what many of the LDS critics have said for years. Things that many members were told were 'anti-Mormon lies' will now be validated as facts. However, the authors of the essays tell the facts in such a way as to not make the issues seem to be faith challenging.

I wonder how long they will (or can) continue to protect Joseph Smith. They seem to be moving all their eggs into his basket. Unfortunately for them it's an imaginary basket.

It is not a general rule of mine to tout a Mormon radio program. It may have been a product of the Great Depression that influenced all American citizens from 1929 until 1941. There were not a lot of things to tout. Nearly all of my similarly aged colleagues agree that the two major influences in their lives were the Depression and World War II.

Why do you think the First Presidency didn't attach their names to the essays even though they didn't author them (as previous First Presidencies have for various documents)? So they can distance themselves if the essays are a failure? Because they are cowards? Because they will do anything to maintain the comfort zone of the membership who so blindly follow due to indoctrination? The complacent membership would follow if they signed. Just wondering what your thoughts are re this?
